Travelers Against Plastic (TAP)

TAP travelers against plasticCrooked Trails is the proud founder of the TAP Campaign. Our goal is the elimination of travelers’ dependence on disposable plastic water bottles.

Why? It is hard on the environment, hard on the communities left with the garbage, it’s expensive, and can often be unhealthy.

No traveler wants to leave a trail of plastic water bottles behind them, but many don’t know how to avoid it.

The solution is easy: Carry a reusable water bottle and a method to clean the local water. We recommend SteriPEN, which uses (UV) light technology to purify water, destroying more than 99.9 percent of bacteria, viruses and protozoan cysts such as giardia and cryptosporidia. One SteriPEN cleans 8,000 bottles of water and one reusable bottle can last a lifetime. The savings alone are outstanding; the benefit to the environment is priceless.

The TAP Campaign launched on World Water Day 2013 and now has over 100 tour operators signed on. We encourage our travelers to travel prepared to clean their own water. To find out how and to sign the TAP pledge visit:
