Coopérative BAGUINE - Tourisme Virtuel
In the beautiful Bandiagara region of Mali, the rich heritage of the Dogon people is becoming increasingly difficult for the world to experience because of ongoing security concerns. As physical tourism declines, the local economy and the visibility of their unique traditions are at risk.
To meet this challenge, Association BAGUINE—a dedicated group of young local volunteers—is stepping up to bridge the gap. They are working to keep the vibrant culture of the Dogon region connected to the global community.
To address this, the association is launching a groundbreaking, community-led virtual travel initiative. This project creates a digital pathway for the Dogon people to share their breathtaking landscapes, traditional knowledge, and daily lives with a global audience.
Through interactive, live virtual sessions, local guides will lead travelers through the region's unique architecture, agriculture, and cuisine. These immersive experiences will also explore the heart of Dogon culture, showcasing traditional crafts, oral histories, cosmology, and sacred ceremonies.
This innovative project provides a vital lifeline for the regional economy while empowering the next generation. By shifting to a digital model, the initiative generates essential income for local households, women's cooperatives, and the broader Dogon economy.
It also provides a powerful platform for youth engagement, helping young people build much-needed digital skills. Ultimately, Association BAGUINE is positioning the Dogon region as a forward-thinking leader in ethical, community-driven tourism innovation.
