The Maasai are one of the most enigmatic peoples on earth. For many, they conjure up the essence of Kenya. We are proud to present Maasai Jr. Elder and founder of the Maasai Association, Kakuta Ole Maimai. Kakuta has one foot in the world of the Maasai, and the other in Edmonds, where he is raising his family with his wife Ruth. Kakuta will share stories of growing up in Kenya, his rise through the educational system that landed him at Evergreen College in Olympia, and finally to the founding of his own humanitarian non-profit. Learn how you can travel to his village on a community-based travel program with Crooked Trails to learn about the Maasai way of life, as well as embark on a safari to Amboseli, Tsavo and the Mara right from his community. Kakuta’s stories of growing up Maasai, throwing rocks at hippos and trying to ride a giraffes as a youngster, are a delight.
