Solo Khumbu Trek

The journey begins in the capital city of Kathmandu visiting the famous sites including the most important Hindu and Buddhist temples of Pashupatinanth and Bhoudananth. The trek begins with a flight into Lukla airport, perched precipitously on the side of a mountain. From Lukla, you begin trekking up the Solo Khumbu Valley towards Namche Bazaar and on to Tengoboche Monastery. trekking-through-village-in-nepal-sustainable-travelAlong the way, there are spectacular views of Everest, Amadablam, Nuptse and Lhotse.

The physical challenge will set your mind free, as you trek through small villages amongst the giant mountains. You do not have to be in spectacular shape to trek in Nepal, but instead be able to walk 5-6 hours each day at altitude. Porters carry your heavy gear and guides will be with you the entire trek. There is no rush and you walk at your own pace.

DAY 1

Kathmandu

Arrival into Kathmandu, get your visa, clear customs and grab your luggage. You will be met at the airport and brought to your hotel in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. Get checked in and rested.

DAY 2

Kathmandu

Today after breakfast it’s time to explore the city, visiting Boudhnanath, Pashupatinath, and Patan. The Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest Buddhist stupas in Nepal and in the world. Practitioners of Buddhism come from all over the world to perform puja here and to pray for wealth and prosperity. Pashupatinath is the most holy Hindu temple and sits on the banks of the Bagmati River. Hindus from all over the world pilgrimage here to worship and to commit the ashes of loved ones into the river from one of the many funeral piers that line the temple walls. Patan is a lovely area where you can take visit Dubar square and enjoy all the different type of art and architecture.

DAY 3

Kathmandu - Lukla - Phakding

Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla,, about a 30 min. flight. It can be a little bumpy, so if you get motion sickness bring some medication with you just in case. You will start your trek there and arrive in Phakding in the afternoon or evening actually losing elevation on the first day. Overnight in a teahouse.
Lukla elevatation: 9350 ft (2,850 m)
Phakding which is actually lower at 8697 ft (2,651 m), your altitude loss will be 200 m. trekking 3-4 hrs

DAY 4

Phakding - Namche Bazaar

Today you will trek up the valley to the famous village of Namche Bazaar. You will be amazed that a village can be so large with no road into or out of it. The village is situated in a bowl on the side of the mountain and just above it you have your first views of Everest, Amadablam, and other great Himalayan giants. You will need to spend two nights here to acclimatize before continuing up. On the acclimatization day you can explore the area and take a short hike.
You will start at 8697 ft (2,651 m), gaining 800 m along the way and ending at 11,318 ft (3,450 m) Trekking: 5- 6 hours

DAY 5

Namche Bazaar (acclimatization day)

After breakfast at the lodge you can explore the area hiking up to Khumjung or other nearby areas, but you will return to Namche to overnight due to altitude.

DAY 6

Namche - Tengboche

Today you will continue up the valley hiking up to Tengboche, an amazing monastery perched on the side of a mountain with the mighty Himalaya behind it. You will have time to visit the monastery in the early morning to witness the monks morning prayers.
You will start your trek at 11,318 ft (3,450 m) and end at 12,696 ft (3,870 m), gaining 1377 ft (420 m). Trekking time: 7 hours.

DAY 7

Tengboche - Khumjung

Today you will make your way down across Dudh Kosi River over a swinging bridge and then back up the hill to Khumjung which sits above Namche Bazaar. You will start at 12,696 ft (3,870 m) and end at 12,467 ft (3800 m). Trekking 5-6 hrs.

DAY 8

Khumjung - Monjo

Today, it’s all downhill - you will be feeling more oxygen with every step. You will spend the night in the village of Monjo far below Namche Bazaar.
You will be losing a good amount of elevation today starting at 12,467 ft (3800 m) and losing 610 m in the first 1.4 miles making your way down to 9301 ft (2,835 m). Trekking: 4-5 hours.

DAY 9

Monjo - Lukla

Your final day trekking brings you back into the town of Lukla for a celebration dinner.
Today is the last day of the trek with a gradual downhill then a short steep uphill to Lukla ending at 9350 ft (2,850 m). Trekking: 6 hours

DAY 10

Flight to Kathmandu

Today is the short flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival you will be transferred back to your hotel.

You need to have this day in your schedule in case of flight delays out of Lukla.

Departure

Today after breakfast you will be transferred back to the airport for your international flight home.
